The Saucony Ride 3 is one of the few running shoes I have come across that pays a lot of attention to the heel. There’s tons of cushioning and support in the heel to guarantee your tootsies won’t be swimming around inside these shoes.
Though the Saucony Progrid Ride 3 does pay a great deal of detail to comfort, it features some awesome updates from the Saucony Ride 2 to shave weight and create a more versatile shoe.

Saucony has managed to make the Ride 3 better and more efficient by taking out some of the rubber in the midfoot and heel, and instead reinforcing the integrity of this shoe with several of their patented technology systems.
For example, this shoe comes equipped with Saucony’s well-known ComfortRide open-cell foam liner that not only provides a plush ride but keeps the shoe extremely breathable. The Ride 3 also maximizes breathability with an air mesh upper and sweat wicking collar.
The Saucony Progrid Ride 3 also has a lot to offer in the way of bounce control. This is a feature every runner is looking for in a shoe – something that will fight the pounding and thrusting we are imposing upon every muscle of our body.
The patented Heel ProGrid techonology that I alluded to earlier is essentially some extra rubber cushions in the heel of each shoe. It works fantastically at being quite responsive and dissipating impact evenly.
Paying even more attention to the heel, Saucony equipped the ProGrid Ride with its Super Rebound Cushioning (SRC) Impact Zone, which adds additional heel cushioning in the outsole, and raises it slightly in the rear.
To balance out this shoe, Saucony added the SRC Xtra Forefoot cushioning, which provides a little contour cushion up front. This works great at offering a snug fit in the toe box, without pinching.
Is Saucony Ride 3 The Best Running Shoe For Me?
Most runners find the Saucony Ride 3’s to be effective at providing a comfortable ride for those of us who don’t need a ton of extra support in our shoes. So if you are built with high arches, the Saucony Guide 3 offers fantastic arch support.
The Ride 3 tended to run a little smaller than average, so please be sure to order a ½ size larger than you normally do. If you order through Zappos, it’s super easy to return your purchase for a different size, free of charge!
This shoe has a lot to offer the neutral pronation runner as a lightweight and supportive option. Its design is well-balanced, and provides an overall comfortable ride.
It may not be the best performance running shoe, but if that’s what you are looking for, check out the Saucony Kinvara. This Saucony “Golden Boy” weighs in at a miniscule 7.7 ounces, making it a great race day shoe!
Overall, the Saucony Progrid Ride 3 is a great “Go To” shoe for the average runner looking for a neutral cushioned ride. No foot issues, or injuries, or special requests. Just the essentials, which the Ride 3 is fantastic at offering.
