Lacing up in a pair of Saucony Fastwitch 4 running shoes is like tying two tigers to the bottom of your feet – and they are ready to take off at full throttle.
These minimalist performance shoes, with their bold and crazy appearance, were designed to take the training wheels off, and start allowing your body to do all of the work instead of your shoes.

The Saucony Fastwitch performance shoe is designed for runners with moderate overpronation, as this shoe is geared toward improving your stability with the Dual Density SSL EVA midsole.
This shoe is also built to be extremely lightweight with minimal cushioning without sacrificing comfort. For this reason, the Fastwitch is not the best choice for training. It can withstand an 11-mile training run, but doing so repeatedly will take a toll on your body, and on the overall wear of the shoe. So, if you are planning to use this shoe for training, you will need to replace them around every 100-200 miles.
Saucony also paid great detail to breathability when designing the Fastwitch. They have combined the EVA+ technology for an extremely breathable outsole and upper, with the XT-900 carbon rubber sole.
This specially-crafted carbon rubber material actually has holes in the outsole to ventilate the bottom of your feet without compromising the overall durability of the shoe. However, this feature does make this a “fair weather” shoe, since your sock isn’t well protected from rain, mud, or snow.
Is Saucony Fastwitch 4 The Best Running Shoe For Me?
The #1 thing that runners love about the Fastwitch 4 is the minimalist feel, and that they could really experience the difference in this shoe and a trainer. Your muscles seem to react more, and you are much more in tune with your running technique.
Many runners agreed that this shoe was comfortable enough to be used as a trainer, but cautioned to really only use them for speed training and competition as they are less durable.
As with most performance shoes, this shoe does forego some of the heavier-duty outsole options in an effort to keep it lightweight and breathable. As a matter of fact, this is one of the lightest shoes I’ve found weighing in at a teensy 6 ounces!
As a result, it is not made to withstand training for a marathon, but instead to shave five minutes off your time when you are running the actual race. However, if you are looking for more of a durable trainer, check out the Saucony Guide 4.
The Saucony Fastwitch is also a very bold shoe that is only available in one color option – bright yellow with black tiger stripes for men, with lime green and black for women. Many runners commented that they liked the bold statement this shoe made, while others wished that it was available in alternative colors.
Overall, the Saucony Fastwitch 4 is a great minimalist performance shoe for those with moderate overpronation who are looking to improve speed and technique on race day. Snag a pair and release the tiger within.
