When wearing the Nike Lunaracer+, you will feel like you are running in slippers. Weighing a paltry five ounces, the Lunaracer comes in as the #1 lightest shoe in our minimalist category.
What I found to be surprising, however, is that this shoe has tons of technology and special features jam-packed into its virtually weightless shell, making it extremely comfortable and well-cushioned.

Let’s start from the upper and work our way down these bad boys. First, Nike took some notes from its track collection, and created a tongue with no-sew construction to minimize irritation or rubbing.
Then, they added a lightweight mesh upper for maximum ventilation, and reflective features on the heels and toes for improved visibility during those late night runs.
Inside the Lunaracer+, you will find a molded EVA sock liner that hugs your heel and arch for a snug fit and added support. The midsole also features Nike’s LunarLite cushion system with a foam foundation that adds some extra bounce to your step while also acting as shock-absorbing cushion.
The midsole of this awesome minimalist trainer also puts emphasis on stability with microfiber synthetic bands in the interior of the shoe that help secure your foot firmly in place.
With so much attention paid to the midsole, Nike knew it couldn’t neglect the outsoles of these “virtual wings” for your tootsies. The Lunaracers feature Flywire technology that envelopes the heel creating a stable and snug fit.
The outsoles are also designed to help improve mild overpronation. This is where the Phylon carrier comes in. This technology is a foam foundation that support the sole while also acting as additional cushioning. Additionally, the sidewall of this technology has a virtual medial post to aid in overpronation through your stride.
With all of this cushioning, you may be concerned that this shoe is a little stiffer than the competition, but fear not. The Lunaracers have molded sipes that run along the entire length of the shoe that boost flexibility and versatility to handle many terrains.
Speaking of versatile terrains, this shoe wouldn’t be complete without durability and traction. Nike rounded it out with the BRS 100 carbon blown rubber outsole in all of the high wear target areas.
Still not enough to make you fall in love? To top it all off, this shoe is Nike+ enabled, and this technology never fails to kick my butt into high gear during my long runs. That, without a doubt, makes this the perfect minimalist shoe, and is why it tops our list of “must-haves”!
Is Nike Lunaracer The Best Running Shoe For Me?
Most runners that we polled were “over the moon” about their Nike Lunaracers. They commented that the shoes feel light as a feather, making them a fantastic choice for racing flats.
However, if you are looking for a minimalist shoe that stands up to tough training, check out the Asics Gel Speedstar 5.
Many runners claimed to set their all-time personal bests with the Lunaracers, and felt that this low-profile shoe was perfect for speed workouts.
There was an amazing response to the LunarLite foam technology, and several testers commented on the pillowy feel, and that the Lunaracers made for a super responsive ride.
The only complaint I ever heard was that this shoe runs small. This was mentioned often enough that I would truly recommend ordering a half size larger. There’s nothing more disappointing when ordering a new pair of running shoes than trying them on, and feeling a slight pinch in the toe box.
Overall, the Nike Lunaracer blows its competition out of the water. Its one the lightest shoes you will ever run in, and it doesn’t disappoint.
