The New Balance 905 was designed for moderate overpronators, who are looking for a shoe that is both cushioned and lightweight.

Weighing only 9 oz for the men and 8 oz for women, the shoe does a remarkable job at combining a stable, cushioned run, with a speedy feel, allowing runners to fly past their competition.

The outsole on the NB 905 contains their Stabiliy Web technology. This support system in the midfoot allows the shoe to bend at the front, but not the midfoot. Why is this important? It prevents your foot from stretching in the tender middle, which can significantly reduce your plantar fasciitis.

The 905 provides a moderate amount of stability control for runners with its TS2 support system. This support can be seen on the medial side of the shoe, and it extends from the heel to the midfoot. This technology allows runners to easily transition from heel strike through toe-off, and keeps the heel itself from shifting.

The shoe designers made a couple improvements on the latest model, compared to the previous New Balance 904. The latest 905 now contains a LockDown Liner, which provides a closer fit across the upper, and a tighter feel against your foot.

Many users also appreciated that the tongue of the NB 905 is sewn into the upper, which keeps it from moving throughout each run. Additionally, New Balance’s SURE LACE technology creates laces with a wave pattern. This allows the laces to lock in place, as they better latch together.

Is New Balance 905 The Best Running Shoe For Me?

Runners looking for a lighter shoe that is great for high tempo workouts may find the NB 905 is exactly what they need.

Fans are impressed with the shoe’s speed, and ability to cushion the foot while also providing sufficient stability control. The outer mesh provided a snug fit, but also allowed the shoe to be super breathable.

In the opinion of a few testers, the heel felt too built up, making the ride of the shoe feel unnatural and uncomfortable. Whereas some liked the SURE LACE shoelaces, others found them somewhat bothersome.

People also had issues with the 905’s color scheme. The bright neon yellow may be ideal for some runners, yet less than appealing for others. Fortunately, New Balance also offers an orange and white combination, which you may find better suits your taste.

The New Balance 905 is perfect if you need a shoe that is lightweight, efficient, and speedy. This model works best for neutral to mild overpronators, who want a cushioned ride during their workouts, and who do not need extreme support.

This shoe is not ideal for larger runners, nor those partaking in off-road or trail running, due to the lighter materials. Runners looking for a more traditional moderate overpronating shoe should check out the New Balance 760, or the New Balance 1123 for a motion control shoe with extreme comfort.
