The Asics Nimbus 12 allows runners to improve their transition from heel to toe-off by engineering a trusstic system in the midsole. This addition allows the shoe to more efficiently transfer energy from the heel to the forefoot.
Asymmetric lacing was an upgrade on previous models of the Nimbus, and is now a staple for the line. The improved lacing more accurately follows the bone structure and reduces pressure points while providing a more comfortable ride.
A few noticeable changes were made to the Asics Nimbus 12 to reduce the overall weight and improve performance, compared to the Asics GEL Nimbus 11.
The outsole of the Nimbus 12 now contains Asics’ guidance line. This structure begins in the heel and curves towards the medial side of the forefoot, creating a more efficient and repeatable foot strike.
The back end of the heel was streamlined by removing excess material to make the shoe lighter in weight. Additionally, the lacing structure has been improved to create an upper section that moves more closely with your foot.
Is Asics GEL Nimbus 12 The Best Running Shoe For Me?
Many runners with neutral or underpronating strides swear by Asics’ Nimbus line. The Asics Nimbus 12 is one of the softest shoes on the market, and gives runners that cushioned feeling they need to alleviate the pressure on their knees.
Some runners found that the Asics Nimbus 12 provided too much room for their foot, with some experiencing numbness during their runs. These testers found it necessary to reduce the fit by ½ size, which was effective in solving their discomfort.
A number of Nimbus 12 fans also felt the shoe did an impressive job of providing some motion control when necessary. However, this led other individuals to feel the shoe was not as soft as they would desire.
One possible solution would be replacing the stock insoles with those containing more cushioning. Unfortunately, the insoles provided with running shoe often leave much to be desired.
The updated Nimbus 12 took a number of measures to improve the ride while also reducing the weight of the shoe. For this accomplishment, Runners World awarded the Asics GEL Nimbus 12 their “Best Update” honor for 2010.
While this shoe may not be ideal for rugged and intense cross training workouts, this is the perfect shoe for the dedicated runner who logs serious miles on the road.
